Physical Therapy
The road to recovery from a spinal injury or disorder often involves physician-prescribed physical therapy. At Ahlgren Spine in Rochester Hills, Bad Axe, and Lapeer, Michigan, Dr. Bradley Ahlgren will always recommend conservative treatment like rehab for neck and back pain before resorting to surgery. Orthopedic physical therapy can help decrease spine pain, increase function and mobility, and prevent problems from recurring.
Physical Therapy Treatments
Dr. Ahlgren will refer you to a highly trained and experienced physical therapist that offers advanced treatments such as:
- Orthopedic manual therapy
- Pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation

Orthopedic Physical Therapy
An orthopedic physical therapist will work with you one-on-one to help manage your spine-related pain and improve your mobility. Hands-on manual therapy techniques such as joint and soft tissue mobilization, muscle stretching, and myofascial release can effectively target the source of your pain or stiffness and help treat your spinal injury or condition.
Active exercise, including strengthening and stretching, is extremely important in overcoming neck or back pain and improving function. That’s why your treatment plan will include specific exercises you will do on-site with your physical therapist’s supervision, as well as exercises for you to do at home. Your therapist will know which exercises will benefit you the most and which to avoid based on your injury or condition.
Your physical therapist will also focus on injury prevention by observing your biomechanics (how your body moves) and teaching proper posture and techniques such as lifting, bending, or pulling that might be required in your job or in daily life.
For your convenience, there is a physical therapy clinic in the same building as our main office in Rochester Hills, or Dr. Ahlgren can refer you to one closer to your home or workplace if you choose.
